THE REAL THREAT TO AMERICA - UNINFORMED VOTERS

THE REAL THREAT TO AMERICA - UNINFORMED VOTERS

Up at 4 a.m. and at the polls by 5 a.m. Everything must be ready when the
voters begin to arrive at 6 a.m. That is the duty of a Judge of Election in
many states. Although the polls may close at 7 p.m., it can be 10 p.m. or
later before the ballots and materials are accounted for and returned to the
election center for calculation and the judges can finally go home.

The way we elect our officials in America is a noble process and should not
be taken for granted.

Primary elections are being held in many states this time of year. Primaries
are the method used by which each political party chooses which of their
candidates will represent them in the fall general election.

Unfortunately, our election laws have become so lenient that it would not be
difficult to circumvent the intended procedure and introduce fraud and
corruption on a major scale.

But even the fraud and corruption is not our biggest problem in elections.
Our biggest problem is the uniformed voter who elects the officials who make
such a mess of governing...and then they wonder why government has run
amuck.

For many years I have served as an election judge in a precinct where
illegal voting would be virtually impossible as long as the computers count
the votes correctly. The judges in our precinct know all the voters
personally. If we don't, we usually do by the time they have voted. We
welcome them to the community and invite them to participate in local
events.

The problem arises when voters mark their ballots with no idea who they are
voting for. We elect some of the most liberal, frightening people to make
the "laws of the land" because people are lazy when it comes to knowing
issues and how the candidates stand on these issues.

Pro-life people who stand on the corner with signs reflecting their belief
will go to the polls and vote for a candidate who has a proven record of
voting for the most gross and barbaric procedure of partial birth abortions.

Farmers vote for environmentalists whose goal is to control their land,
control their water, and to prevent them from using any form of chemicals to
raise their crops.

Strong second amendments supporters vote for a candidate who opposes our gun
rights.

One voter told me she voted for the first person listed for the office.
Another told me she only voted for the women who were running. And these
were two voters who have been politically active for years. I wanted to say
"God help us" to them - I certainly thought it but I refrained.

One particular congressman that I know has managed to be re-elected for 11
terms. He courts the unions and the veterans for his vote..but he votes
consistently with the ACLU and is listed as a member of the Progressive
Socialist Caucus.

Although serving a very conservative district, his voting record indicates
he has voted:

YES for partial birth abortions
YES for marriage between persons of the same sex
YES to "hates crime legislation"

NO to school prayer during the War on Terror
NO to a constitutional amendment to prohibit flag desecration
NO to protecting the Pledge of Allegiance
NO to displaying a copy of the Ten Commandments in schools and other
government buildings

NO on reforming the UN by restricting U.S. funding
NO on withholding $244M in UN back payments until the U.S. seat is restored
NO to authorize construction on new oil refineries
NO to reduce the use of coal, oil and nuclear energy
NO to drilling in ANWR (These forms of energy are desperately needed until
renewable energy has been developed to replace our dependence on these
resources.)

He received an F rating from the NRA for his votes on gun issues, and he did
not receive the endorsement from the agricultural community in the last
election.but he still won against a very viable candidate.

The sad part of all this is the people who elected this man 11 times (every
two years) have no idea how this man voted.

Who should we blame? Should we blame the official the people elected? Should
we blame the political party for not exposing their candidate? Or, should we
blame the voter for not assuming the responsibility of becoming informed?
