A National Disgrace
I am sure that the overall decision to open those stores in the hurricane area was made at the corporate level by the COO. All these swaggering smirks will be former heads of companies soon because after Bush and company get through with the economy, company after company will be closing their doors due to lack of customers (no one will be able to afford gasoline soon, even your elite customers). I won't sit here sounding like some conspiracy theorist so let's just wait and see...say three months tops. There is not one person in America thats not saying "This is a National Disgrace". The backlash from this incompetence will be history in the making. I am hearing calls for impeachment, laws to protect people from 'business predators', and just plain anger at the way the country is turning out. So, all you elite knowitalls, your turn is coming. The people of America will not forget what happened here...that the very people they entrusted to guarantee their safety and well being turned their backs on poor and infirm citizens. And where is the same kind of support the world showed for those tsunami victims last year? I have received some personal correspondence from present employees of TM in the New Orleans area and thought I would share with the world the callousness of these corporate sharks. They are so concerned about their employees they even conference called from corporate with concerns about damage to the stores, not for the employees that work in them. They sent a relief supply truck from Dallas to the New Orleans employees but the only problem there is no one can find those employees. Guess CNN doesn't come in very clear in Dallas. This was a MAJOR DISASTER Tuesday Morning. It's been all over the news and there's approximately ten feet of water covering most of New Orleans. You guys are worse than the federal government...too little, too late. Mr. Dave (mouthpiece of TM in the disaster Zone) is ordering everyone back to work. Do you really think people want to get right back to shopping at Tuesday Morning when they have no basic services like water, electricity, etc? Oh, I forgot, Tuesday Morning is the all knowing, all seeing best retail company on the planet (extreme sarcasm there) and can do no wrong. Note to Tuesday Morning....the citizens in the hurricane affected areas are in shock...they've been through a very traumatic experience and they need time to get their stuff together, such as their family's, etc. You really are heartless bastards and deserve everything that's coming in the future.
I encourage every single Tuesday Morning employee that was or is taken advantage of during this 'disaster' to write a letter to TM corporate, then send a duplicate to your local media. Let's all show the real face of Tuesday Morning, and it 'ain't' pretty!!!

Those employees that had to work until close last Sunday in LA. BEFORE Katrina, had less than 10-12 hours before the point of impact depending on where lived/they ran to.That didn't leave us/them much time to get things done before a major hurricane to get out of the way now did it? No wonder why so many didn't leave the areas affected. They had to work at Tuesdy Morning & knew they would get into trouble or lose their jobs if they dare call in or ask to be off to get ready. After the hurricane, same thing. As soon as it's over, it's "back to work people" didn't matter if you had limbs & trees,& power lines and stuff down in your yard, on your house, everywhere, no power, in some places no power, & no water. No phones either.Cell phones don't work. Many peoples can't find relatives for days, some are just begining to. I know people at work who still don't know where some of their people are at. This works on your head. It makes you physically sick with worry. Your stomach churchs.
We've all went through this. Still are even now are. This kind of thing traumatizes you for some days and weeks after. It's like 9/11 for us but closer to home. We weren't in New York, but did they make them open their stores in that city the day after on 9/12?
We don't know where all the several store employees from La. are at or what has happened to the Gulfport area stores. I hope theyre okay. They say our Regional is okay over in Lafayette somewheres. I heard he lost everything, got out of New Orleans, with his little boy. This same man's 39 year old wife just passed away in March, unexpectedly. This is a double tragedy for him in a short amount of months. I hope they don't hassel him to get to work soon. Probably will though that's how they do. Please someone give him some time off to think & get his life back.PAy him too during this time. It won't kill the company to do that.
Hurricane Katrina has proven to be a complete disruption to the lives of the people most directly affected. The event has left hundreds of thousands homeless and jobless, has separated people from their families, and has inflicted both physical and mental distress on those who suffered through the storm and its aftermath.

Psychological trauma:
Psychological trauma may accompany physical trauma, or exist independently. Typical causes of psychological trauma are abuse, violence, the threat of either, or the witnessing of either, particularly in childhood. Natural events such as earthquakes and volcanic eruptions can cause psychological trauma. Man-made events such as armed conflict also inflict psychological trauma.
In times of war, psychological trauma has been known as shell shock and combat stress reaction (CSR). Psychological trauma may cause acute stress disorder (ASD) which may lead on to posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). PTSD can also develop without an antecedent ASD and may come on months or years after the trauma. Both ASD and PTSD are specific disorders in which the traumatized individual may experience nightmares, avoidance of certain situations and places, depression, and other symptoms. PTSD emerged as the label for this condition after the Vietnam War in which many veterans returned to their respective countries demoralized, and sometimes, addicted to drugs.
Psychological trauma is treated with therapy and, if indicated, psychotropic medications. Recent studies try to show the effect of trauma on human memory. This kind of study is useful in order to verify the attendibility of eyewitnesses involved in criminal acts.
Following traumatic events, persons involved are often asked to talk about the events soon after, sometimes even immediately after the event occurred in order to start a healing process. This practice may not garner the positive results needed to recover psychologically from a traumatic event. Victims of traumatic occurances who were debriefed immediately after the event fare no better than others who received therapy at a later time. There are indications that forcing immediate debriefing may even distort the natural psychological healing process.
The hurricane affected employees will need counseling.
This Dave guy must not understand this.
Deepest regards to all the employees in Lousiana, Mississipi, that have been stricken by this catastrophic tragdy. It must be mind blowing to deal with.
We are praying for you and yours and the people of these hard hit areas.
If any TM employee went to the Astrodome or any place around in Houston they will have access to a computer to enter info in ref. of names and place of residence.I already posted this site. They will have access to free phone service to call anybody to get in touch with a friend or relative or co-workers from companies here in Houston if they remember the numbers ;I hope so. They will get food stamps about $400 per a familly of four. The kids will be attending the Houston Independent School District with transportation. College kids will be able to continue with studies no money to be accepted. Also they will get emergency money like unemployment. At least is something.I hope corporate will get in touch with Houston so our co-workers from Louisana get help ASAP on this.
I saw on TV in March 2002 they did a study on New Orleans that if something like this happen it was going to be this bad.People was un-aware of this information. Also the wall retentions were not going to hold this category four hurricane. So corporate was never aware of this either I guess.A long time ago I wrote about a regional that never was aware of bad weather here in Houston and we had to unload a truck under a tornado watch and raining like crazy. The employees did not showed up to unload a truck. Me as an assistant manager in charge of this truck had to do it with only one more employee. The truck driver gave us a hand when he noticed the lack of hands. We ended up all wet and cold. Guess who was the regional? Mr.D.S

Again:
Site to look for people victims of Katrina.
Is that man some kind of manaic with no conscience? He came from a children's toy company to come be the zone at Tuesday Morning some one told me. Well welcome to the "BAD ZONE hall of fame" mister.
IF there were a hurricane, or tornado, or tsunami, whatever, would he put his wife and children in dangers way? Some of us always think of these things when it comes to employees. I think it's something to do with the "Treating your neighbor as yourself" or the "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" principal. Does he not understand that people have lives or not even care if they get injured because of his bad judgements and insensitve decisions?
This was heard on Radio MX today.
Apparently someone who lived right in front of the levy said that he saw 2 barges crah into it and broke it.
He stated that the hurricane winds were responsible for the barges to become loose and that the actual impact of the barges caused the wall to break and followed suite with the flooding!
Anyone else heard the story?
TM this is what a company does for their employees!!!!
Please read:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9187306/
As far as we all are concerned that Dave guy should get the boot!
Shame, shame on all of you at corporate!
those "high winds" which none of us got acording to Dave S. are what made those barges hit the levees.
I used to be a Store Manager for TM left about 4 months ago and I just wanted to let people know that some companies do care about their employees. The retailer I went to has been bashed here before and I agree with much of what was said but just 3 days ago The Regional Vice President came to my store in Louisiana and had to tell my Store Manager he didn't care how much we spent in payroll make sure if any New Orleans associates wanted jobs to hire them. He also refused to walk the store saying somethings are more important then how clean a store is or how much money it makes. While TM doesn't care about its employees some companies do.
help us....you USED to work at T.M. and now you don't? And the new company you work for had been bashed on this blog before? It was a tiny confussing. Sounds like your at another company now and the Regional was nice to you and stuff though regarding the LA situation and New Orleans people needing jobs.
One thing was awesome that you said.....in a time like this...it was good that he didn't judge you on the store apperanace and he's letting you hire needly people, and giving you MORE payroll? That isn't happening at the T.M. stores in ravaged areas. We promise you that.
hummm, this is all interesting news to read today. I bet that Corporate doesn't even know how bad that man acts and HE represents them, so that says ALOT about Corporate. They must want to be represented that way or they should boot his butt off the planet. What he's done is idiotic and dangerous. I hope he's prepared to be sued.
Even with 10 hours that is still plenty of time to get out. They knew the storm was coming so they could have started days before. How about some of these people take some personal responsibility. Tm is a company not a charity.
Excuse me, I guess you have never been caught in a traffic jam. Do you have any complete understanding of what happens BEFORE a hurricane. The preparations a person has to make are something like this.....
1.Boarding your windows/etc up and this might mean a trip to the lumber yard.
2.Secure any projectiles in your yard that might fly. This means get your trash cans, flower pots, birdbaths, whatever in the garage.
3.GAS your cars, and gas cans. This alone takes forever due to long lines.
4.You have to buy supplies, due to possible power outages, and not being able to buy FOOD and WATER. This takes time too because again, everyone is in a panic.
5.THEN when you get this done, maybe you can get your people on the road, this requires finding a place to stay I might add. You just don't hop in the car and ride off into the wonderful sunset. Rooms aren't always available and you might have to drive hours an hours away.
Here's the best....coming from say somewhere like New Orleans, it may take 6-8 hours to make the 60 mile drive due to the heavy traffic. This is even with that state doing a special "Contra-flow" which means they disable all traffic flowing south into the city and they allow all lanes of traffic to flow only North......imagine thousands of people trying to get out of there.....only so many routes.
I guess you don't live on a coast or you'd know these things. Some of us have had to do these things before and they are not fun and cost hundreds of dollars to just prepare. THAT is why many people don't leave. They don't have the means to do so. OR else because they have fled in times past and dodged the "bullet" and the hurricane hits somewhere else and misses you but you went to great measures to leave and it is expensive.
Apparently in such a situation you would have it all worked out it and orderly it sounds like. Maybe you should step in as director of FEMA and fix those problems for that state or better yet, sounds like you should run for head of some place that is like a "mercy mission" since you have so much mercy on those people down there.
Your right, T.M.isn't a charity and that is/was very clear and evident even BEFORE that hurricane hit.
Have a great night and sleep well when your head hits your pillow with that GREAT BIG heart of yours.
Nice exposition on preparing for a storm. I do sleep well at night. I have my emergency supplies & plans already in place. I don't have to go out at the last minute & do these things. Typical of most TM people, never plan ahead & then cry when the inevitable happens. THEN they look for someone else to bail them out or someone else to blame it on. Pathetic!
This is no a time to should , would and could .This is the poorest State of the nation and just by watching the news you can see that nobody was ready for this disaster. Many times we are told here in Texas about a tornado watch, flood warnings and many warnings thru the night. Then when the wind blows a bit stronger all the lights go out.One night was for 24 hours 3 houses only and it took this long.We are used to this and we are ready with candles and go out to eat.No problem. We open the windows so we can get some air.But if a real tornado comes we have no way to know unlees we heard the radio or if we can find a station that will warn us.I have a relative in Florida that her house got flooded for the first time with Katrina.Nobody was prepared for this. I went today to and employment office for a free training so I can get another job because I lost the skills to work in a office. The unemployment office was full to capacity and everybody except me and some others were from Texas.I felt a sence of happines to see all this people there looking for a job but at the same time I wished I could do more for them but I did not have a job anymore.I saw kids on their parents laps using the computers looking for jobs on the web with used clothes,no make up just trying to survive.I went in and could not stay for the two hours I was expecting because they needed the computers to find jobs here in Texas.Welcome to Texas!
To that "pathetic" person. That's great that you have your plan down. Not everyone has so much time and money on their hands like you do. You tantilize us with your hardcore aditude. You must be management, but without a voice or things would have been fixed by now in all the stores, etc.So how can you stand the disorgination of this company?
It is worse than the government. What do you suggest to these people at Corporate that would be a way to fix such things and bring order? We are waiting.
right on, get a life whoever that "PATHETIC" person is.
I think Corporate can just about kiss this Green Card sale goodbye down in the South. People don't have money to shop with, not during a disaster. Plus so many people everywhere are donating money across the nation to the various charities and telethons. Hey! How about that Walmart donating those big numbers! You go Walmart! It's about time a big Corporate giant, like that gets behind all the people that have made them what they are. Rich. What's the story Tuesday Morning. Are you getting in on donating some Corporate Money? Madison Dearborn? Any takers? Oh parden me, I forgot they are always the takers.
